Emile Gauchet Obituary

Emile A. Gauchet passed from this life to his next chapter on November 16 at the age of 94 at Inspired Living in Kenner. Emile was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Annette Volker Gauchet. He was the proud father to five children, the late John Michael Gauchet, Emile Joseph Gauchet II (Cindy), Anne Gauchet Tucker, Keith Anthony Gauchet, and Raymie Gauchet Gogolen (Rich). He was also the grandfather of nine, Dana Ann Gauchet, Kristen Gauchet Arrant, Michael Joseph Masson, Sarah Marie Masson, Haylie Alexis Tucker, Ashley Michelle Gauchet, Daniel Emile Gauchet, Emily Elizabeth Hoffmann, Rachel Elizabeth Hoffmann, and step-grandfather to Taylor Madison Gogolen and Paige Marie Gogolen. He was the great-grandfather of three, Olivia Grace Arrant, Eric Wayne Arrant III "Tre", and Emile Patrick Masson. He also leaves behind his awesome dog Lucy. Emile was preceded in death by five siblings, Margery Gauchet Retz, Elaine Gauchet LaBurthe, Yvonne Gauchet Monson, Danny Leo Gauchet, and Barbara Gauchet Puissegur. Son of the late Emile Joseph Gauchet and Lena Peltier Gauchet, Emile was born on April 12, 1923 in New Orleans on Bourbon Street. Emile spent his 60-year career in the thoroughbred horse racing industry as a jockey, racing official, steward and consultant to tracks across the United States as well as Superintendent and General Manager of the Fair Grounds. Emile was also one of the "Greatest Generations" true cowboys riding the rodeo circuit for several years including the Super Bowl of rodeos, the Calgary Stampede in Alberta, Canada. At the onset of WWII Emile enlisted in the United States Army. As an accomplished equestrian, he became a scout in the 5th Calvary Regiment of the 1st Calvary Division in the South Pacific and received numerous medals of honor. Emile was an avid golfer that shot his age at 70, enjoying a good Scotch between putts. Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 28, from 10am till noon followed by a celebration of life Mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church at 411 N Rampart. So sorry for your loss. We never met him, but his daughter Raymie is our neighbor and has told us about him. She has been a great neighbor. I'm sure she has gotten her love for caring for people from him and her Mother.
