Truly a teacher who was available, understandable, challenging, and she taught with authority. She had all the characteristics of a great teacher and the fruits of her labor are endless. Thank you Sonya and Jai for sharing her with us...Michael A. Parker ( VSU 1981, 1987 )

Sonya and James, please accept my heartfelt condolences. I'm so sorry to hear about the passing of your mother. Dr. Smith was an incredible person and taught many things, much more than calculus - she taught dedication, honor, perseverance, patience, and the true value of hard work. 15 years later, I remember her and her teachings fondly. She will be greatly missed.

To the Family of the Late Dr. Emma Breedlove Smith:

For some moments in life there are no words. I am thankful to have known Dr. Smith, as my graduate statistics professor at Virginia State University. She served as a role model and encouraged me to continue to my education. Moreover, before completing my masters degree, she made a point to have me begin researching doctoral programs. I completed my 1st doctoral degree and now I am completing my 2nd.

sonya sorry to hear about your mom ,may the grace of god be with you.

Dr. Smith will long be remembered by those of us who were her colleagues at Virginia State University. She taught with a passion for her students' success in the field of mathematics. With admiration and appreciation for her dedication, I wish her, her family, and all those whose lives she touched: PEACE.
