Not sure what to say?

To the Family,
I wanted to take a moment and share a story I found that I believe encapsulates cousin Gene’s life.

There were two men were walking through a cemetery after a graveside service. One of the men couldn’t help but notice that all the grave markers had something in common They all had some type of a statement etched on the stone that summarized the person’s life; words like…”world’s greatest mom…or loving husband… or you will be missed.”

One of the...

Gene was my cousin. We hung out together when we were small, worked together when we were older, laughed every minute when we saw each other. Even after I moved away I would come to Buffalo I would try to see him. A kind heart, a great laugh, and an infectious love of life. A Berst he definitely was.

Gene was my brother-in-law but he was always a good friend. I still remember him in his youth with his George Harrison good looks and his little red sports car. He would ride to the beaches of Lake Erie with the top down and Beatle's tunes blaring on the radio. We all wanted to be him. He was a wonderful uncle to my sons. His enthuisiasm for life, his love of music, his infectious smile and hearty laugh made him a joy to be around. A wise man once said, "The dream never dies, just the...

My wife Mamie and I knew Gene when we were all teenagers in South Buffalo. He was a good friend to us both. We haven't seen him in many many years but often thought of him in visits back to Buffalo over the years. We're sorry to hear of his passing, and know in reading the other comments that he was a good man. Sincerely sorry for your loss.

Dear Carol and family,
I am so sorry for your loss. His passing affects so many people. I will always remember the wonderful times I had at the Berst house on Eaglewood, and our family parties. There was always a lot of laughter and singing. Gene will be missed so very much.
Love,
Molly Berst Hartnett

It was with GREAT sadness that we said goodbye to a wonderful man so full of life and love we thought sure he would always be here by are side. He would of been so happy to see all your faces yesterday because family and friends meant EVERYTHING to him. Please hold him close to your heart and remember all the beautiful memories you have...I love you dad..Love,Aimee

Gene was a great friend, and co-worker he loved his family more than anything else , and would do anything for them. He had a great set of value's and would not waver from them no matter what. He was a great man, as repeated over, and over, and over today, by many people.as they showed their great respect to a great man.

Uncle Gene,
I always was in awe of you as a small child and how everyone seemed to come to life around you. You had such a presence of life, wonderful sense of humor and were also the best storyteller. I always loved hearing about all the funny stories growing up in a house with my Mom, Diane and 3 other siblings. You will be forever remembered for your generous heart and hard work ethic. You took care of your family like no other. We will miss you dearly but your memory will...
