Dear Pat,
I am writing to tell you how I admired Gene for so many years – both as a fine Urologist and then more as a friend after we both retired. I feel badly I missed his service, but I found out about it late. Every member of the Urology Department reflects his influence and mentoring. Pat, Diane and Carolyn - I have wonderful memories of Gene from our annual trips to Tahoe and our other visits over the years. Please know that my heart, love, and prayers go out to you all during this time of loss.

I first met Gene at the San Rafael Military Academy while in the seventh grade. I also lived in the East Bay (Orinda) so once in a while several of us would get a ride across the Bay from the San Rafael side to Oakland with his Mother. After graduating he had a new red and white Ford. He came over to San Rafael in it to give some of us a ride with the top down, much to our delight. I didn't follow Gene after his graduating knowing that he was very busy with his studys.

Pat, Diane, Carolyn and your families: We have many joyful memories of Gene: the wine maker, the chef, the host and, especially, the father. We will miss him and keep all of you in our prayers.
