Dear Pat,
I am writing to tell you how I admired Gene for so many years – both as a fine Urologist and then more as a friend after we both retired. I feel badly I missed his service, but I found out about it late. Every member of the Urology Department reflects his influence and mentoring. I really got to know Gene better after we both retired and worked together on the board for the retired physicians. During our board meetings his remarks were “remarkable”. Although a “bit of a curmudgeon” he kept the group on their toes and with his humor kept us awake from the boring subjects being discussed.
We will all miss Gene, but he will not be forgotten. Most of us retired doctors are finding that we need the help of our friendly Urologist. We will never cease to remember Gene and that we would not be getting the type of care he instilled in his staff. In addition, at each of our quarterly Retired Physicians Association we will look to that end of the table where Gene sat and remember and miss him.
I hope that we can get together and reminisce about “the old days”.

I first met Gene at the San Rafael Military Academy while in the seventh grade. I also lived in the East Bay (Orinda) so once in a while several of us would get a ride across the Bay from the San Rafael side to Oakland with his Mother. After graduating he had a new red and white Ford. He came over to San Rafael in it to give some of us a ride with the top down, much to our delight. I didn't follow Gene after his graduating knowing that he was very busy with his studys.

Pat, Diane, Carolyn and your families - You are a wonderful testament to who Cousin Gene was as a man, a husband and a father. He was a leader in our family by age of course, but in stature and heart as well. God Bless You All

Sincere condolences from the Frank J DeSantis family who had the pleasure of working with Dr. Cattolica for many years with the Western Section American Urological Association. Dr. Cattolica served on the Board of Directors for several years and was president in 1999. We enjoyed working with him and his wife, Pat, during that time. He and Pat were always involved in the medical association activities and golf tournaments. We have fond memories over many years of meetings with Gene and Pat Cattolica. Sending blessed peace to the Cattolica Family; Frank, Eileen, Kathy, Chris & Jeannie DeSantis
