Mrs. Eva Spicely Hobbs, of Wilsons, Va. entered rest and went into the presence of the Lord at Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg, Va., on Nov. 16, 2008.
She was born on Jan. 23, 1915, the oldest child of Samuel U. Spicely and Sarah P. Spicely. At an early age she accepted Christ and joined Mount Poole Baptist Church, where she was a faithful and life long member.
She received her formal education in the Dinwiddie County school system. She was a long-time retiree of Central State Hospital, where she excelled at her position and gained many life-long friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Moses L. Hobbs.
She leaves behind to celebrate her life, son, Kenneth U, Hobbs Sr.; devoted brother, retired Col. Samuel B. Spicely (Geraldine); grandchildren, Stephanie Hobbs, Kenneth Hobbs Jr. and Keturah Hobbs; devoted nieces, Theresa Spicely, Artrelle Spicely and Samelia (Mimi) Spicely; sisters-in-law, Bernice Spicely and Mary Smith; great-nephews, Edwin Vaughan and Brandonn Williams.
She was also preceded in death by a devoted nephew, George and Thomas Spicely. She also leaves to celebrate her life nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, such as devoted friends Mrs. Bertha Bland, Mrs. Esther Fulgham and Mrs. Myrtle Taylor.
Before her death she resided at the Golden Living Center in Petersburg, Va., and the family would like to acknowledge the staff at Golden Living Center and the staff at Southside Regional Medical Center, fifth floor, for their care of our loved one.
A homegoing service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008, at the Mount Poole Baptist Church, Ford, with the pastor, the Rev. Stephen Pugh, officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Viewing will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008, at the funeral home, and hour prior to the service at the church.
