Faye Henderson Obituary

Faye Henderson STATESVILLE Mrs. Faye Goforth Henderson, 86, died unexpectedly Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011, at Autumn Care of Statesville, with her loving husband by her side. Born Oct. 6, 1924, in Olin, Faye was the daughter of Samuel Flake and Leah Jurney Goforth, who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Dwight Goforth and Ralph Goforth, both of Olin and their spouses, Ethel and Lois Goforth. Faye graduated from Union Grove High School and married William Henderson, who survives her. Most of their 68 years of married life were spent in Statesville, where Faye enjoyed lengthy employment with Shell Oil Company, and, in her later years, assisted in the family business, Henderson Furniture Company. An accomplished gardner, Faye's green thumb was demonstrated by a beautifully manicured yard filled with blooming flowers and a bountiful vegetable garden which she joyfully shared with neighbors and friends. She was a member of the local Business and Professional Women's Club, and was an actively involved member of Front Street Baptist Church for most of her life. But, by far, Faye's energy and love were given to her family, to whom she was a constant source of love and support. She was happiest when she was by her husband Will's side. They traveled the world together, spent a part of each day hand in hand, and inspired many by their devotion to one another. Faye is survived by her beloved husband, William Walter Henderson; a sister, Kathleen Goforth Guy, of Statesville; a daughter, Jean Henderson Snyder and husband, Steve Snyder, of Charleston, S.C.; a daughter, Emily Gail Henderson Ray and husband, Michael Ray of Raleigh; granddaughter, Ashley Henderson Ray of Raleigh; granddaughter Jessica Ross Sterling and husband, Scott Sterling of Charlotte; grandson Cameron Ross of Charleston; great grandchildren Carson Sterling of Charlotte and Leah Ross of Charleston, and many nieces and nephews and their spouses and children. The family wishes to extend much love and gratitude to Betty Col-vert, Faye's sister-in-law, who spent countless hours comforting and caring for Faye in her greatest time of need. Funeral services for Mrs. Henderson will be held today (Sunday), February 20, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Front St. Baptist Church in Statesville with Revs Tim Stutts and Glenn Dancy officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be held prior to the service beginning at 1 p.m. in the church fellowship hall. Interment will follow the service in Oakwood Cemetery. Condolences may be sent online to the family to www. bunch johnson funeralhome.com. Memorials may be given in lieu of flowers to Front St. Baptist Church 1403 W. Front St. Statesville, N.C. 28677 or to the church or charity of the donor's choice. Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
