Not sure what to say?

My grandmother, Susie Garnett Hix, was Frances' father's sister. We were cousins. I will always remember her for her strength in response to adversity in her life. She taught me that loss of lower extremity function related to polio was not a reason to accomplish any less in life. She had incomparable strength and compassion. She was my hero.

Here it is 2019, and I still miss my beloved teacher, Frances Garnet Word. She still inspires me today with her excellence as a teacher and a role model. Frances knew her subject matter and was amazing as she walked about the class on crutches. I became an English teacher of high school seniors and then college students. Now I am an Episcopal Priest now whom Frances helped along the way. I shall never forget her and trust God that we shall see her again in the next part of our Journey. ...

My Dear Frances, What a Wonder Woman you were long before there was a Wonder Woman! How we all admired and loved you, perhaps even idealized you. You loved us; you inspired us; you convinced us we could become all that God had intended for us to become from the beginning. You were a Godsend to our Mother, Blanche F. Wooten and to my sisters Shirley, Patricia, and to me.What a Gift you were to all of us--indeed you were an extension of the Incarnation. You reflected the Light that is Christ....

TO FRANCES FAMILY FROM THE GRIGG BROTHERS, JOSEPH, ELIJAH, THOMAS AND JAMES, WE ARE SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS. WHAT A FINE YOUNG LADY WHO MASTERED MANY OBSTACLES-ONE TO ADMIRE.

I don't know how to put into words what this beautiful lady meant to me. She was the greatest inspiration in my life. I am so thankful that I spent the time I did with her last summer. We laughed and talked about the "good old days". God now has the most precious angel with him now. I will never forget "my favorite teacher".

Frances was a wonderful person; Always making us feel welcome when we visited Enon Baptist Church. Our condolences to the family and old friends.

She was one of my favorite teachers at BCHS - She will be missed!!! I did't see her often but she will never be forgotten. Always smiling and never complaining - I can see her now getting around on those crutches - she was an inspiration to all.

Mrs. Word taught me in school, class of 1958. She was a wonderful person.

No words of sympathy
can ease the loss you bear.
Perhaps you may find some comfort in knowing others care.
Mrs. Word was one of my favorite
teachers at BCHS. She taught me typing and General Business. She will be greatly missed especially
at the 1959 Class Reunions.
My sincere sympathy. God Bless you
all.
