My grandmother, Susie Garnett Hix, was Frances' father's sister. We were cousins. I will always remember her for her strength in response to adversity in her life. She taught me that loss of lower extremity function related to polio was not a reason to accomplish any less in life. She had incomparable strength and compassion. She was my hero.

Here it is 2019, and I still miss my beloved teacher, Frances Garnet Word. She still inspires me today with her excellence as a teacher and a role model. Frances knew her subject matter and was amazing as she walked about the class on crutches. I became an English teacher of high school seniors and then college students. Now I am an Episcopal Priest now whom Frances helped along the way. I shall never forget her and trust God that we shall see her again in the next part of our Journey. Frances loved our entire family, was good to our Mother, and to all who came in contact with her; she was truly a messenger (angel) from Heaven.

My Dear Frances, What a Wonder Woman you were long before there was a Wonder Woman! How we all admired and loved you, perhaps even idealized you. You loved us; you inspired us; you convinced us we could become all that God had intended for us to become from the beginning. You were a Godsend to our Mother, Blanche F. Wooten and to my sisters Shirley, Patricia, and to me.What a Gift you were to all of us--indeed you were an extension of the Incarnation. You reflected the Light that is Christ. You blessed so many, so often, so well. You even understood when I changed my ordination from SBC minister to Holy Orders in the Episcopal Church USA. You never judged. God love you, and welcome you home-- one of God's most faithful servants. You were the greatest! I shall love you forever. Thanks be to God for all that you were to all of us! You are such a part of where I have been, my roots, and of all that I shall ever hope to become. I shall forever be indebted to you; I shall remain your student. What a great lady--what a great Christian! Great is your reward in heaven. What a LOVE! You are the best! XOXOXO

Gratefully, Carolyn Wooten Isley+

I don't know how to put into words what this beautiful lady meant to me. She was the greatest inspiration in my life. I am so thankful that I spent the time I did with her last summer. We laughed and talked about the "good old days". God now has the most precious angel with him now. I will never forget "my favorite teacher".

I will always remember what a wonderful person you have always been. Always a smile, always the same wonderful person. The many rides you and Dave gave us to church functions. Mr first ride on a horse. The winter I got snow-bound at your house, we cleaned and you were so appreciative of everything I helped you do. Your wonderful homemade rolls. The wonderful typing teacher you were. The summer you and I were pregnant at the same time. The washer story. The list goes on and on.

Sorry I cannot attend your celebration of life.

You will always be remembered !!!
