Francis (Frank) Lloyd Clay, Jr, 88, entered into eternal rest on December 20, 2014, at his home in La Feria, TX.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Iva Clay, and his wife Irene.
He is survived by his wife of twelve years, Elida Benavides Clay, his son Kurt Clay and wife Barbara of La Feria, his daughter Mary K. Hoyer and her husband Randy of Lampasas, TX, his three granddaughters, Megan Hoyer, Kendra Clay, and Karin Clay, and his stepson John Ray Benavides and his wife Angela of La Feria, step daughter Jeannette Norwood and her husband Peter of Palo Alto, California, and his step grandchildren Jaeda Rae & John Ray Jr Benavides of La Feria, Aaron Norwood of Palo Alto, California, and Skylar and Joshua Chavez of La Feria.
Frank was born in Ulysses, Kansas, on September 21, 1926. He is a graduate of Ulysses High School then served in the Army Air Corp for two years. After his service in the Army, he attended Colorado State University for two years. Mr. Clay and his parents relocated to La Feria in 1949 where he married and raised his two children.
Frank, a longtime farmer, enjoyed farming with his son Kurt before retiring.
Frank was known for his witty conversation, love of farming, playing poker with his buddies once a week, and later attending the bingo halls in the Rio Grande Valley with his wife Elida.
The Clay, Benavides, and Hoyer Families would like to express their gratitude to the family and friends whose support and prayers provided strength through this very difficult time.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 29, from 1:00-9:00 p.m. and Tuesday, December 30, from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at Garcia and Trevino Funeral Home in Mercedes.
Mr. Clay's graveside service will be held at Restlawn Memorial Park, 14166 Business 83, in La Feria at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday Dec. 30.
Pallbearers for the service are Robert Benavides, Zeke Jr Benavides, Zeke Benavides III, John Ray Benavides, Dwayne Barlow, and Reverend Robert Dicus.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Amenity Hospice, 100 Crawford Dr., San Benito, TX, 78586, who provided Mr. Clay with loving care in his final months.
A special thanks to the Director of Nurses, Fernando Martinez, and his staff Alma Salinas & Danny Cavazos for their constant care and assistance.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Garcia and Trevino Funeral Home, 439 S. Vermont Ave., Mercedes.
