Francis Eugene YATES M.D.

Gene Yates was my best mentor, teacher and friend. Gene made it possible for me to expand my research interests in biochemistry and physiology. When I was ready to explore research interests different from Gene's, he provided me with introductions to other labs in which I was able to do independent work. In Boston, Gene gave me physiology and I owe him a long-lasting debt for that, it gave my work for life that I loved. Gene and Margaret welcomed us to California by suggesting first that we stop at Fallen Leaf on our way from Princeton to Stanford and then by letting us stay in their house at Stanford while we found a place to live. He was a shining light in our lives. I loved every conversation I had with this brilliant and caring man. What an honor to have known him and learn from him.
