Gene Yates was my best mentor, teacher and friend. Gene made it possible for me to expand my research interests in biochemistry and physiology. When I was ready to explore research interests different from Gene's, he provided me with introductions to other labs in which I was able to do independent work. He and Margaret were constant friends and I was a beneficiary of their many kindnesses.

In Boston, Gene gave me physiology and I owe him a long-lasting debt for that, it gave my work for life that I loved. Gene and Margaret welcomed us to California by suggesting first that we stop at Fallen Leaf on our way from Princeton to Stanford and then by letting us stay in their house at Stanford while we found a place to live. Our lives were entwined for a number of years through Stanford and permanently through Fallen Leaf. At Stanford, in Gene's lab were Greg and Katie taking care...

He was a shining light in our lives. I loved every conversation I had with this brilliant and caring man. What an honor to have known him and learn from him.

Gene has been practically a family member for many years. We dearly loved him. I especially loved him and told him so many times for bringing us to warm Sunny California from Cold East Coast. Have adored his whole family. love Helene Iberall
