Vaughn Funeral Home - Spring City Obituary

Frank “Sonny” Byrd age 86 of Spring City, Tennessee died on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at Spring City Care and Rehabilitation Center.


He was born on December 13, 1936 in Hamilton County to the late Ninevah Lee and Pearl Katherine Dodson Byrd. Sonny was a graduate of Spring City High School. He was a carpenter and contractor for most of his life and owned and operated Frank Byrd Construction until his retirement. An avid fisherman, Sonny won many awards and tournaments. He was of the Baptist faith. 


Sonny was preceded in death by his son Tommy Byrd, daughter Teresa Ann Dodson, and grandson Dillon Dodson.


Survivors include his grandson Josh Dodson of Chattanooga, Tennessee; special friend Donna Kunkel of Grandview; two great grandchildren; and his dog “Gus.”


Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Forgey officiating. The interment will be held on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Spring City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Vaughn Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of services.

So sorry to hear of Sonny's passing.He was a great friend and will missed.He spent alot of time on Watts Bar fishing against Don and Jim Lee in those tournaments that they all loved to fish
