Frank Griffo Obituary

Frank Griffo, Jr.

Jacksonville, FL

Frank Paul Griffo, Jr., a Vietnam Combat Veteran with the 101 Army Airborne is on a new adventure. He brings with him courage, commitment to his principles, faithfulness to his friends, a witty and outrageous sense of humor, and a fearless, full steam ahead charge into anything and everything he chose to do! Born September 29, 1947 in the midst of a fierce hurricane, to Frank Paul Griffo, Sr. and Margaret Lucille McDaniel in Jacksonville, Florida.

He leaves behind a big sister that was in awe of his courage and loved him dearly; women that won't ever forget him, and men that both feared and adored him. He was a talented, multi-dimensioned, argumentative, stubborn man that loved with passion and recklessness, would give his last dime to a friend, loved to party, never backed away from a righteous fight and was committed to his 101 Airborne buddies and friends. His was a life well lived and he will be very sorely missed.

A military burial will take place for a fallen eagle on August 8, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Jacksonville National Cemetery. Cause of death: Advanced Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. Neptune Society is in charge of his arrangements.

2024 - Frank served in Vietnam with my brother, Mike Hutto, also from Jacksonville. I'm Mike's sister & I live in Panama City. The Vietnam Memorial Wall came to our town a month ago and I was watching the slide show of the veterans from Florida & saw Frank's picture. I smiled so big because I knew Frank and I knew how much fun he always was and what a great friend and great buddy he was to my brother. I share with you the sadness of losing my brother to Agent Orange. They were both courageous, full of laughter and love. God bless.

Frank, we are going to bury you tomorrow and out of all the weddings and funerals we've attended together, this will be our last... I've seen so many familiar names in this guestbook and I remember your regard for each of them. Being the person you were, you are loved by many. I hope you're at a reunion with your dad and that it's well attended by all those who jumped out of perfectly good airplanes. I hope the beer is cold, the women hot and you feel at home. I love you and will never forget you.

Lucille, please accept my deepest sympathy for the loss of your brother. I have to admit you caught the essence of Frank in the writing of his obituary. He and I met in the mid 70's and ended up buying a house together. What a wild time we had. However, things changed and I only reconnected with him just a few months ago and we had several good conversations. Again, I am very sorry for your loss and as you said, he will be missed.

Lucille my deepest sympathy to you and your family. Frank was a character, an Awarded Veteran, a dedicated man. I do know how you feel as I too lost 2 brothers. Frank will no longer have pain, need to stress about our country nor any worries of any kind. RIP AIRBORNE WARRIOR

I stopped by to see you yesterday, Frank. Your door was always open. You were always quick to say "Hey, maaaannnn!!! Come on in!!!!

I stopped, as always, not just to check on you but to get your take on the latest local, national and geopolitical news. We often did not agree but it was always a joy!

You honored me with your friendship, Frank.

Rest in peace, buddy. Your friend,
Barry

A proud 9E class Bishop Kenny guy I met in 9th grade. We remained friends and as we got older talked at least monthly, sometimes more often. We would just say "vertical check" when leaving a message, that met you had to call back. Last time he returned my call he said "I'm checking out". They were taking him to the Hospital right then, called as they carried him out. Many story's of love and Wife's.Jumping out of planes and, well you know. Airborne.

I can hardly believe you you've left us, Frank. You had a bigger than life personality that we all will miss. I still remember you the way you were when we were kids in grammar school and that's how I will always think of you my friend. Rest in peace Frank.

You will be missed Griffo. A mean softball coach but boy we had fun. Tailgating for the Jags in the early days were so much fun. You are now with your other brothers. Peace to your family.
