Frank Manko Obituary

Frank L. Manko

Passed away peacefully at The Aldersley Care Center in San Rafael on Sunday, June 21st at 5:30 p.m. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on March 13. Shortly thereafter the family moved to Pontiac, Michigan where he attended school at St. Frederick's Catholic Elementary, Middle and High School. He continued his education in Ann Arbor, Michigan at the University of Michigan.
After December 7, 1943, he enlisted in the Army Air Force. He became a Pilot Instructor, 2nd Lt. during 1944-1945. He worked at Pontiac Motors, then received a Football Scholarship at the University of San Francisco. Upon arriving in San Francisco, he enlisted at University of San Francisco as well as playing for the professional football team called the San Francisco Clippers. Soon the 49ers took over with the formation of the National Football League.
Frank met Marjorie in November 1946, gave her the engagement ring on February 14, 1947 and they were married on June 7, 1947. They were never blessed with children, but enjoyed their married life for 68 years.
Frank was recalled to active duty during the Korean War. He served two years as a pilot during this period of time. Upon being honorably discharged, he worked as a car salesman for several years then worked for 25 years as a Sporting Goods Sales Representative in Northern California for Hoffmann Sports, Inc. a Huntington Beach, California based sporting goods company. Frank had a passion for the game of golf. He was a member at Peacock Gap Golf and Country Club for 40 years.
Frank was always helping those in need. He was a very caring, loving and kind human being. He will be greatly missed. We were fortunate to receive excellent care from The Aldersley Care Center, The Kindred Care Center, Hired Hands Homecare, Inc., Healthy Living and Hospice by the Bay. All provided great comfort for Frank during those days of suffering. Also giving us excellent care and advice was Keaton's Mortuary in San Rafael. Everyone mentioned above gave us the needed support and guidance though out these difficult days.
Burial services will be held privately at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery. There will be a Memorial Funeral Mass held late July at St. Anselm's Catholic Church, San Anselmo.
