Prof. Olver with the 1964 NBS Handbook of Mathematical Functions, now made obsolete by the 2010 NIST Handbook of Mathematical Functions.

Frank Olver was a giant in classical mathematical analysis. His 1974 monograph Asymptotics and Special Functions has become a classic. More recently he devoted himself completely to the 2010 NIST Handbook of Mathematical Functions, a monumental achievement that will be an indispensable mathematics reference for for scientists and engineers for many years to come.
