FRED Hobbs, Jr. Obituary

Elder Fred Attneave Hobbs, Jr., age 90, peacefully transitioned into eternity on Thursday, June 5, 2014. He served in the United States Army for 3 years, being honorably discharged in 1946. Elder Hobbs was employed for 30 years at the Veterans Administration Hospital as a dietician in Memphis, TN, retiring in 1979. Elder Hobbs served as pastor of six churches in Tennessee, Arkansas and Louisiana, and for 30 years served as District Chairman for the Church of Christ Holiness USA in Tennessee, Arkansas, and Louisiana. He also served on the Executive Board of the Church of Christ Holiness USA for more than 20 years. Elder Hobbs was the recipient of numerous awards including the National Man of the Year, Pastoral Leadership and Outstanding Service Awards on the Diocese and National Level in both the North Central and Southwestern Dioceses of the Church of Christ Holiness USA. Upon his retirement in January of 2012, Elder Hobbs received a congratulatory letter from President Barack H. Obama. Elder Hobbs leaves to cherish and honor his legacy: a loving wife of 68 years, Annie; five children, Sylvester (Georgia), Plentimore (Carroll), Melvin (Chelaynn), Lula (Johnathan), and Freddie Jean; one brother, Julius B. Hobbs (Alma), one sister, Jennie McNeil, 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives, friends, church members, and colleagues. Visitation will be held Friday, June 13, 4-7 p.m. at M.J. Edwards Funeral Home, Stage Road Chapel, 4445 Stage Road, Memphis, TN 38128. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 14, 11 a.m. at New Hope Baptist Church, 2356 Elvis Presley Boulevard, Memphis, TN, 38106. Interment will take place in New Park Cemetery, 4536 Horn Lake Road, Memphis, TN, 38109. M.J. Edwards Funeral Home, Stage Road Chapel (901) 791-9700.
