My heart is broken over the passing of Fred. I just learned of this sad news since attending a recent event to Greensboro. I will never forget Fred's major influence during my photography days, and I always be honored by having such a true and caring friend! He was a wonderful counselor for me numerous times, a devoted teacher and mentor. Fred was an inspiration in my life ever since I met him at his Rhodes Center Studio over 40 years ago. I owe my development as a photographer (pun intended) to "Uncle Fred", who processed and printed my entire professional b&w output in the 1970's and '80's, and still treasure his gift to me of a print of "The Burning Wall". Gone, but never forgotten...

Fred was a close friend of mine. I will miss our lively conversations and the friendship we shared. Fred was a fine husband to Joy, a good Father to Megan and a joyful friend to many people. He will be missed and my thoughts go out to his family.
