My heart is broken over the passing of Fred. I just learned of this sad news since attending a recent event to Greensboro. I will never forget Fred's major influence during my photography days, and I always be honored by having such a true and caring friend! He was a wonderful counselor for me numerous times, a devoted teacher and mentor. Fred was an inspiration in my life ever since I met him at his Rhodes Center Studio over 40 years ago. He was the best black and white photographer in the world! He was so much fun to talk with and I will miss him terribly until we see each other again in eternity! May God bless you, Meaghan and Joy. He loved and treasured you both so dearly.
With much love and great respect,
Debbie Stratton Wood

I owe my development as a photographer (pun intended) to "Uncle Fred", who processed and printed my entire professional b&w output in the 1970's and '80's, and still treasure his gift to me of a print of "The Burning Wall". Gone, but never forgotten...

Fred was a close friend of mine. I will miss our lively conversations and the friendship we shared. Fred was a fine husband to Joy, a good Father to Megan and a joyful friend to many people. He will be missed and my thoughts go out to his family.
