Frederic Neely Obituary
Mr. Neely was born on Feb. 9, 1918, in Wollaston, Mass., the son of Charles and Elizabeth (Baker) Neely. He graduated from Branford High School. He attended Worcester Academy where he was a member of the Glee Club. He went on to Yale University School of Architecture. He was employed at Electric Boat as a structural engineer working on hull design for many years until his retirement in 1980.
Frederic had a lifelong interest in music as a member of Connecticut Opera Theatre in Clinton, a charter member of the Branford High School Band, a member of the Conductors Club, a choir member at many churches, Yankee Male Chorus, Middlesex Band out of Deep River and the A Cappella Cantorum in Deep River.
He studied for over 15 years with Burton Cornwall and Frederick Koehler of Essex. He was a 32nd degree master Mason in the Brainard Lodge #102 in New London. Mr. Neely served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He is survived by his cousins, Kenneth N. Burne (Laura) of Branford, and Kathy Reynolds (Delbert) of North Carolina; and many friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 12, 2014, in Fulton Theroux Funeral Home, 13 Lake Ave., Niantic. A calling hour will be held an hour prior to the service at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Center Cemetery in Branford.

Fred was a dear friend and brother. He was a 50 year member of Brainard Lodge of Masons. He cared for many friends over the years. I will miss him.

I had the honor of getting to know Fred during his time at Bayview. For a time he made it his mission to get me to like opera. I cannot say that he truly succeeded, but he opened a door for me that I would never have unlocked on my own. Fred was a true gentleman and a beautiful soul. He will be missed greatly and fondly remembered always.
