Mark Neely Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by DuPage Cremations, Ltd. and Memorial Chapel on Dec. 31, 2025.
Mark Steven Neely, a long-time resident of Batavia, passed away on December 28, 2025 surrounded by his family. He was born November 10, 1948 in Aurora, IL, the son of Paul and Katherine (Leipold) Neely. Having spent a very fond and memorable childhood in Wildwood, IL, he moved back to Batavia before high school and remained in Batavia. He enjoyed a long 40+ year career as a mechanic at Larson-Becker Company in Batavia.
He married Kathleen (Nelson) on September 6, 1969.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Kathy, his four children, Michael, Peter (Christine), Katelin, and Patrick. Four grandchildren (Paul, Chad, Sarah, and Isla), two sisters Jan (Larson) and Tracey (Peterson), six nieces and nephews, and many lifelong friends and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Leslie (Baltzar), and niece Jaclyn (Murphy).
He pursued creative endeavors including playing bass and rhythm guitar throughout his life in rock and roll bands and faith-based worship groups. Yard and garden activities and home projects kept him busy and he enjoyed his long walks on the Fox River Trail.
He studied Civil War history, visiting many battlefields, and was interested in military history, in general. He also enjoyed world travel with his wife and family, backpacking, downhill skiing, summer lake life, urban culture in Chicago and New York City, and many midwestern weekend getaways.
A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2026 from 4pm to 5pm at The Well, 33W835 Cherry Lane, Geneva. Service to follow at 5pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.

Kathy was a classmate so I got to know Mark threw him. He was the most gentle rhythm guitar player I ever knew & years later I ran into him at Island Park and we sat on a bench and shared views on life. I'm so glad I had those moments with him. All best Kathy to you and your family. May his memories be eternal.

I did not have the privilege of knowing Mark personally, but I had the honor of spending meaningful time with his wife, Kathy, and his daughter, Katelin, on a recent mission trip to Africa. In listening to their stories, witnessing their faith, and seeing the kindness and grace they carry so naturally, it became clear to me that Mark was a man who deeply shaped the lives of those around him.

Although my career was in the roofing industry, I´ve always enjoyed mechanical work as a hands-on hobby. Reading about Mark´s long career as a mechanic made me smile - there is a shared appreciation in working with your hands, solving problems, and taking pride in doing things the right way. I have no doubt we would have enjoyed swapping stories and sharing that common ground.

Even without knowing Mark personally, I feel I know something of his heart through the wonderful family he raised. His legacy lives on in their strength, warmth, and compassion. My prayers are with Kathy, Katelin, and the entire Neely family during this difficult time. May you feel surrounded by comfort, peace, and the quiet assurance that Mark´s life continues to bear fruit through those who loved him.

With sincere sympathy and respect.
