Frederick LYKES Obituary
71, of North Redington Beach, passed away January 28, 2017. Fred was a musician and played the organ for several churches in Pinellas County. He was also a composer and released an album of original works called "Star Bound." He served in the Army during the Vietnam war and spent nearly two years there in 1966-1967. Fred was known locally as an avid fisherman. Friends say he knew the ways of the snook as well as the snook itself and was a master at catching the prized and often illusive game fish. He is survived by his sister, Norma Gene Lykes and three nephews, James, Tyson, and Edward Chittenden and their families. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Fred Lykes Music Scholarship Fund, Department of Music at St. Petersburg College.

His album ''starbound'' was one of my favortie album,First heard him on music choice channel, ''Planetary Voyager'' was playing and it caught my attention,fell in love with it, and had to look it up it became my '' theme song to my life'' Fred Lykes may not be with us, but we have his music he left behind, to cherish for years and years,'' his music will live on''

Our son, Kent W. Zimmermann II met Fred while working as a volunteer at the park on the water in Seminole. Fred would be happy to know that Kent 2 has remarried and we are blessed with a new baby boy; our first and only grandchild. We met Fred and was invited to his home were he introduced us to his music. I have used it in my ministry (at prayer time and meditation). His music has blessed our ministry. Fred's gifts to the Music program at St. Petersburg College helped dozens of students complete their degrees and enhanced the department. His love of music inspired us. He will be missed by many.

Freddie will be missed by all those that knew him. My son, Hayden, and I met Freddie several years ago while fishing at the Redington Pier. As the years went on we got to know him well. He would always offer fishing advice and had plenty or stories to tell. Freddie had trained an Osprey which he named Harry to come down and take a fish almost directly from his hand. As soon as Freddie hit the pier Harry would fly down and land on his perch and bob back and forth patiently waiting for Freddie to talk someone out of a mackerel or lady fish. Freddie's presence will be sorely missed!
