Frederick Santiago Obituary

Frederick Peter Santiago, 49, of Ormond Beach, FL, passed away Thursday, October 26, 2017. He was born November 5, 1967, to Jean Ellen Mattiello in Manhattan, New York. In 1988, Fred was a proud member of the United States Army. Following his service, he thrived in an auto sales career, which culminated into management. Fred had a passion for the open road on his Harley. He lived bigger than life, went "All In" and knew when "Enough was Enough". Fred made us laugh and protected us from harm - no matter how big the threat. Brittany Hope Santiago and Benjamin Wyatt Santiago are Fred's legacy. Fred is survived by the mother of his children, Melyssia Leigh Santiago, Brittany and Ben. He is also survived by his father and mentor, Vincent D. Mattiello; his sister, Linda McDonald; his sister, Kim McGwier; and his brother, Dominick Mattiello. Fred now rests in peace with his beloved mother and will be dearly missed. "Go Big or Go Home". The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, 548 N. Nova Road, Ormond Beach. Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home 11:00 am Friday, November 3, 2017. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.volusiamemorialfunerals.com.

Fred, you are missed every moment of every day. My prayers are for all of your family and friends every day. I still wake up and pick up the phone to call you for our daily chats. I just needed to say "I'll meet you at the PALACE" yours "faithfully" LA&F+E. Laura A.

I had the privilege of meeting Fred a little over 35 years ago. My first day of school after moving here from out of state was horrible. Some boys were teasing me and I was in a corner crying. This boy came over to me and asked me why I was crying and told me to stay there and he would come back. Well he came back and said "those boys won't ever bother you again and if anyone does, you just come get me, my name is Fred, so please don't cry anymore" As the years went by, we became very good friends and loved shooting pool. He was always there for me and was respected and loved by all who knew him. Fred would protect you and make certain you were safe. Fred and I would sometimes go years without seeing each other yet our friendship was always there. It was about 2 months before his passing that we crossed paths again. Fred stated " in over 35 years we've never had an I'll word" I so respected Fred's love and kindness to his family and friends. I was so lucky to see Fred the day before his passing, yet I still want a million more days. My prayers are for his family and friends. I send a part of my heart with him. And we are still going to shoot that pool game, just at a different venue. LA&F+E. "Faithfully" Laura A.

Thanks brother for keeping in contact with me all these years. You were also so kind and respectful, great seeing you and Linda in Vegas. Even though we weren't tight because of the distance, I still considered you a brother. RIP.
