GARTH MICHAEL STEFFEN

1933 - 2018

Garth was the fifth of eight children born to Ezra and Rose Steffen on March 4, 1933. He was raised and educated in Elgin, IL where he graduated in 1951. After graduation he moved to Portland, OR. He married Connie Jean Cooper on June 26, 1955. From 1956 to 1958 he served in the Army stationed in Fort Ord, CA. After his service, he returned to Portland where he became employed as a barber and worked for the Oregonian. From 1960 to 2004 he worked exclusively for the Oregonian. Garth and Connie had four sons, Daniel, Joseph, James, and Nathan; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He is survived by three brothers, Nathan, Grant and Fred; and two sisters, Lorna and Elinor. Garth loved the outdoors and particularly the ocean, spending the last years of his life in Yachats, OR. He shared his love of rocks with those around him. He was chosen to minister in the Portland Apostolic Christian Church. He went to be with the Lord on March 21, 2018 at his home in Yachats surrounded by family. Services have been held.
