Gary BECKWITH Obituary

BECKWITH, Gary Malcolm
Gary Malcolm Beckwith, of Jupiter, FL, and former longtime Madison, CT resident died on June 14, 2015, in New Haven, CT surrounded by his family. He was born on July 9, 1939, in Meadville, PA, the son of George Malcolm and Dorothy Swift Beckwith. He was the widower of his eternal love Carole Beckwith. Married one month shy of 50 years. Gary and Carole had a love only one can dream of. He was forever devoted. "I married for eternity" were his words. Gary Beckwith retired from TWA Airlines in 1998 after 32 years of service. Gary was first a father, husband and son, but being a Captain on the Airlines defined him for many who knew him. He started flying at 13 years of age. He knew precisely what he wanted to do and worked steadily to climb to the top of his class. He prided himself as an instructor pilot, mentoring his contemporaries. Gary was an avid boater and enjoyed retirement watching the parade of boats from his Jupiter, FL home. He made many dear friends in Florida during the winter months and enjoyed his retired airman Saturday morning meetings. During the summer Gary returned to his Madison home to his many longtime dear friends. Mr. Beckwith is survived by his adoring children Scott Beckwith and his wife Annette of Madison, CT, Melissa Ginz and her husband Peter of Guilford, CT, and Glenn Beckwith and his wife Susan of West Granby, CT; his sister Kay Kelly of Sarasota, FL; grandchildren Henry and Hayden Ginz, Clark, Sutton, Banks, Brooke, and Gregory Beckwith. Calling hours will be held on Thursday June 18th from 3:00PM to 5:00PM at Swan Funeral Home, 825 Boston Post Rd., Madison, CT. A funeral service will begin at 5:00PM at the funeral home, followed by a graveside service at North Madison Westside Cemetery, Race Hill Rd., Madison, CT. I was so sad to hear that Gary had passed. I am one of his Saturday morning pilot friends that met at Galaxy Aviation in Stuart Florida. I loved Gary for many reasons. First his love of his dear wife, and then for his love of aviation. We spent many happy hours on the phone when we weren't together at the airport or having lunch. He will be sorely missed.

Susan, I am so sorry for you and Glenn's loss. When Zach and I met Glenn, you should have seen how he spoke of his father, so much 'larger than life'. I am sorry I did not know him, but to know you and Glenn, I can only imagine the magnitude of your FIL's life and how much he will be missed.

My deepest condolences to Gary's family. Gary was one of those very special people at TWA who made going to work something to look forward to. We'll miss seeing Gary at the TWA Madison breakfast but I know he's flown off to be with Carole in a better place.

Gary has been a dental patient of mine in Jupiter Fl. He stood out among my many patients due to his kindness and most interesting conversations relating to aviation and life in general. He would always spend time with 'SOPHIE' my therapy dog giving his love and affection to her. All my staff are very sad today as he had a very special place in all our hearts. May G-d bless him as he now joins the love of his life Carole.
We want to wish his family peace in knowing what a wonderful man he was. We send our heartfelt sympathies to you his family. May G-d bless you all

We met Gary last fall at Jupiter Cove; sadly, too brief an acquaintance. Greatest memory is the love and attention he gave our dog, Bimini, always taking the time to pet her. Our thoughts and prayers for his family.

Gary, Knew you for only a short time but wished we had more time to share our aviation stories. Just wished you could have hooked up with a tanker to enjoy a longer flight of life. I believe your flight was a great one but you are above the skies now. May you rest peacefully.

Dear nieces and nephews, we are so sorry for your loss. We remember your father and father-in-law with fondness and with gratitude for his caring and love for my sister Carole.

Jeff and I always tell the story of Gary flying us home from Spain on TWA and asking us to remind him "pull back on the stick to go up, push forward to go down". We had great times on "Plane Crazy" and in Tolland.

We miss him and he will live on in our memories.

I am deeply saddened to hear of Gary's passing. I worked with him for many years and always enjoyed our time together. He had a wry sense of humor and an optimistic outlook that lifted all around him.

May his family's grief soon fade to fond memories.

Gary was a dear friend for many years in New Hyde Park NY, where I attended Herricks grade school, Herricks JR high and Hempstead High School, together with he and Carole. The two of them were enormously popular and it looked to all of us that they just might be together for life. And it has proven to be so. I have never in my 75 years of life met two finer people. A tragic loss.

Gary was always a smiling face and ready to say" How are ya" whenever he passed by at Jupiter Cove. He was a very nice guy and long time member of our Jupiter paradise.
Miss you, Guy! Howard and SUgar
