I am so sorry to hear about this. I was trying to find his email and phone nr when I came across this. I spent a lot of time with him in the navy and working as a contractor. I will miss him.

I am so sorry for the family,I just found out. As we go through life certain people stay with you from friendships or from a memory of them during your life. Well the Master Chief for me was one of those people. An honor and a privilege to serve under him in HS-11.

A Veteran

July 10, 2013

An elderly veteran of our family has been invited to Washington to honor their war service. In preparing for the trip, this veteran handed me something to read today that was cut out of the newspaper a long time ago and saved. It was written by Gary Garner and it was about Patriotism. He probably thought his words were soon forgotten but we wanted it known that is not the case. Perhaps it was a "God Wink" that caused his words to be placed in my hand at this particular time. To his family, we are very sorry for your loss. Gary Garner was a patriot and we thank him, and his friends and shipmates, for their service.

Our days go back to G'tmo Bay, Cuba back in 1960/61. You transferred to Jax first and several months later I also was transferred to Jax. We visited quite a bit, as a matter of fact, you introduced me to one of you wifes co-workers at Sears(on Bay St. at the time). That didn't turn out to well but wasn't your fault. Our paths crossed again years later also at Jax, I think you were on the staff of one of the wings then. You were a good friend, I still remember some of our hi-jinx while at G'tmo. Hope our paths cross again in that eternal Home port.

I knew Gary from work. I worked on the ECOMTRAK program. Gary was always so nice to me, such a hard worker. It was obvious how much he loved his family and how much they loved him too. He was very generous and kind. I can not be there as I am in Oklahoma, but want to express my Sympathy to all the family. Renee please hug your Mom for me, I pray God comforts all of you in and through this sad time. God bless you all.
