It has taken years to be able to write this because it feels incredibly devastating. I knew Gary - refused to call him JR- when we went to basic training together and remained friends. Our paths kept missing each other but I remember hearing about him meeting his wife and hearing all about her and our firstborns being a few weeks apart. He was so excited when they settled on a name and he beat me to Zion as a middle name. We were kids figuring life out.
