Gary RICHTER Obituary

RICHTER, Gary Don
Gary Don Richter, 61, of Spicewood, Texas died December 23, 2015 at Baylor Scott & White in Temple after a brief battle with a cancerous brain tumor. Gary was born on October 28, 1954, in San Angelo, Texas to Mildon Ray ("Chatchie") Finney Richter and Herbert Adolph ("Buck") Richter. Gary was a 1973 graduate of San Angelo Central High and a 1979 graduate of the University of Texas, School of Geology. Gary married his high school sweetheart, Sandra McFarland, in 1978 in San Angelo, Texas and they had one son, Eric.

After graduating UT, Gary spent several years in the exploration and development of the Austin Chalk oilfield of Central Texas and deep water oilfields in the Gulf of Mexico. Gary always believed in Sandra and encouraged her to get her law degree and pursue a legal career. When Eric was born, Gary left the oil industry to be a stay at home dad before being a stay at home dad was popular. Gary loved his wife and son and they will miss his smile, sense of humor, loyalty and intelligence.

Gary Don was a Texan every day of his life. He loved barbeque, TexMex and pecans. He was at home in the hill country surrounded by live oak trees and Texas bluebonnets. Gary was true to himself and his family. He lived a serene and Christian life

Gary is survived by his wife of 37 years, Sandra McFarland, and their son, Eric Richter, and a large extended family of Richters and Finneys as well as his-laws, the McFarlands. Gary was predeceased by his sister, Raejeana, in 1964 at age 6, his father, in 1980 at 62, and his mother, in 2004 at 82. Sandra and Eric believe Gary is now enjoying Christmas in Heaven with his parents and sister.

Sandra and Eric appreciate the care Gary received at Baylor Scott & White in Temple during the last few months. They are particularly grateful to the nurses whose competence and comfort made this journey a little easier for us all.

The family will hold service at 2PM on Tuesday, December 29 at the Chapel at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, 1805 Hwy 281 North, Marble Falls, Texas 78654 with a later interment of ashes at the Mausoleum in the Eileen M. Hurd Nature Preserve in Horseshoe Bay, Texas. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice or to Scott and White Healthcare Foundation (brain tumor research), 2401 South 31st Street, MS-20-S103, Temple, Texas 76508. The family can be reached at PO Box 341300, Austin, TX 78734.

I was a friend of Gary's in high school. What a happy, great guy he was. It looks like he had a fantastic life. I'm so glad he didn't just work until the end and did such an unusual thing raising your son. What a treasure of memories he must have. I haven't seen Gary Don in 40 years but that smile brings back all his wonderful nature.
