Genevieve DeWitt Hoffman 1926—2017
Genevieve DeWitt Hoffman, 91, of Rockford passed away Saturday, February 4, 2017. Genevieve was born January 20, 1926, at St. Anthony Hospital in Rockford, the daughter of Wilbur and Ida May Bumbard. Genevieve was a kind and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in 1940. A graduate of East High School in 1944. Genevieve married Edward Vernon Hoffman on December 11, 1944. She worked as a secretary at Burson Knitting while Edward went off to war. In later years she was secretary at Ingersol, Swedish American Hospital and retired from Dorhn Transfer. She was deeply cherished and loved by her family and all who knew her. May she rest in God's eternal peace. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Edward V. Hoffman; father and mother, Wilbur and Ida May Bumbard; sister, Laura Emery; son, Edward V. Hoffman, Jr.; and daughter, Eloise (Dawn) Lovell. Genevieve is survived by her daughters, Phyllis (Terry) Bishop and Betty Dant; son, Vernon Hoffman; six granddaughters; three grandsons; thirteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandsons; as well as other extended family.
A service to celebrate Genevieve's life will be 1 p.m. Saturday, February 11, 2017, at Advantage Funeral Home, 7000 West State St., in Rockford, with a visitation from noon until time of service at the funeral home.
