Gennaro Mauro

NEW LONDON - Gennaro 'Jerry' Mauro passed away unexpectedly and peacefully in his sleep early morning on May 2, 2016 in Suffolk, VA.

Jerry, 55 years young, was born in New London, CT on February 1, 1961 to Margaret and Ferdinand Mauro. He attended New London High School and went on to enjoy a 36 year career at Electric Boat General Dynamics in Groton, CT. Jerry's most recent position was as Construction Manager on location at Norfolk, Virginia.

Jerry was a man who knew what he liked and enjoyed life. He was known to seek out good company and a good scotch. He relished the beach and taking time for a good tan. He adored his cat Sped, taking her for long walks in the evening even when it was raining. Jerry was loyal to Wrangler jeans, always making good use of their durability. He savored the art of storytelling.

Jerry loved and valued his family; wife Mary, daughter Elizabeth and her wife Julia, son Jeremy, his partner Danelle and Jerry's granddaughter Gabriella, brothers Michael and Peter, sister Gayle, Jerry's first wife Joy, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Jerry leaves behind many dear friends.

Jerry is predeceased by his brother Freddy, who will be waiting to show his little brother the ropes.

We will have a Celebration of Life to remember Jerry's accomplishments, retell his stories, and raise a glass on Tuesday, May 10th at the American Legion in Montville from 3 to 7 PM. Everyone is welcome, please stop by. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Connecticut Humane Society in his memory.

Not sure what to say?

You were always the funny bone in the family. You were more like my brother than my uncle. God called you home too soon, but our time here is never guaranteed. Rest in peace uncle Jerry and may the Lord grant peace and comfort to our family.

I remember Jerry from New London High. He was a really, really nice guy. Very genuine and would always take the time to talk to you. Great smile. I can still picture him in his band uniform or flying by on his motorcycle! He was just a really great guy. My condolences to his family. RIP Jerry.

Gerry,
You will be missed. I just found out today that you had graduated to the 'other side' at a meeting here at NNSY where I met you and developed a friendship. I was in shock and still cannot believe that you were gone. You were one of those gentle souls that was easy to be around, and you never got upset with me, even when I had to turn off your power for some reason or another. You just made sure that I was taken care of so that we could get the work done. That is a true team...

Mary,

I am so very sorry for your loss. I worked with Jerry when I started at EB. We laughed hysterically, and cried from the hysterics! Jerry was an honest, hard working, and genuine human being. His memory will live on forever!!

I had the distinct pleasure of working with Gerry for several years at EB on the waterfront. He will be greatly missed. May God grant you peace.

To the Mauro family, I am so very sorry to hear about Jerry's passing. Always enjoyed the many conversations I have had with him over the yearswhether it was about the boats we were working on or just life in general. I liked Jerry a lot. "Good people bring out the good in other people" This was true of Jerry and I feel very blessed to have known him if only from a work setting. He will be missed by a lot of folks here on the waterfront and in the Submarine Community. Rest in peace my...

To the Mauro family, I would like to extend my condolences. I worked with Jerry about twenty years ago at E.B. Third shift was so much fun. We were the Shipfitter gang. I will miss my friend may he rest peacefully.

Elizabeth & Jeremy, I am so sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. He was a funny, happy guy who loved making people feel good and laugh. Know that he will be with you everyday in everything you do as he loved you dearly.
