George Ablah Obituary

Ablah, George J. "Little George," 85, passed away Monday, October 27, 2014. George was born March 24, 1929, in Wichita, Kansas, the son of Lebanese immigrants Frank and Nellie Ablah. He grew up working with his father in the Ablah Hotel & Supply business and very soon ventured out on his own, beginning his life long career of being a "Wheeler Dealer." He served his country in the Marine Corps during the Korean War, achieving the rank of Sergeant and was honorably discharged. George lived his entire life in Wichita, Kansas, while doing business all over the United States. Through all of his real estate dealings, oil ventures, art collecting, and mentoring to others, George and the love of his life and business partner, Virginia, would put aside everything for time with family and friends. George would take your phone call day or night and help you with any idea or problem you might have. He loved golf, watching football, playing the lottery, and his trips to gamble in Las Vegas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Nellie Ablah, his sister, Lucille Barkett, his infant son, Earl Jack Ablah, and his son-in-law, Jerry Haile. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Findlay Ablah; brothers, Don (Faith) Ablah, and Amil (Carol) Ablah; children, Robert J. (Mary) Ablah of Oklahoma City, Carol (George) Sherman, F. Jay Ablah, Nellie J. Haile, and G. Jeffery (Jodi) Ablah, and Toni Ablah (daughter-in-law) all of Wichita; 19 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his beloved dog "Lady." Visitation will be on Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lakeview Funeral Home, 12100 E. 13th St. N., Wichita. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 31, 2014, at St. George's Orthodox Christian Cathedral, 7515 E. 13th St., Wichita. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens, 12100 E. 13th St. N., Wichita. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kansas Humane Society, 3313 N. Hillside St., Wichita, KS 67220, or the American Diabetes Association, 608 W. Douglas Ave. #100, Wichita, KS 67203.

George was a joy to be around. So real and kind, he never had to try to impress anyone. Virginia would lovingly scold him when he would get a little too comfortable with guests but that was just part of his charm. So sad to hear he has passed. Prayers to the family.

My mornings will never be the same without George, lottery tickets, and sugar free candy. I feel very blessed to have had his friendship. George had a great heart and enjoyed talking about his family. Virginia, he adored you the most. He said his favorite time if the day was to cuddle with you. Though George was a very busy man, he never seem to be in a hurry or a rush. George truly stopped to smell the roses.

George would always take my call when I asked for advice and I am thankful for him and his work for Wichita.

October 31, 2014

When I worked at the Country Club near Wichita State, Mr. Ablah used to have numerous parties there. It never failed that he would come back into the kitchen and give us all a tip and thank us for all of the hard work. He was a generous man who always had a kind heart.

I am so sorry to hear about Georges passing. George showed me a couple of writings he had that I have cherished all my life since.

The Truly Creative Mind
“The Truly Creative Mind in any Field is no more than this: a human creature born abnormally, inhumanly sensitive. To him a touch is a blow, a sound is a noise, a misfortune is a tragedy, a joy is an ecstasy, a friend is a lover, a lover is a god, and failure is death.”
“Add to this cruelly delicate organism the overpowering necessity to create, create, create…so that without the creating or music or poetry or books or buildings or something of meaning, his very breath is cut off from him. He must create, must pour out the creation. By some strange, unknown, inward urgency, he is not really alive unless he is creating.”
Pearl Buck

For me this was George. It captures the essence of his life. You will be truly missed. Thank you George for all you gave me.

Dear, Virginia and children.. My heart was broke when I heard George had passed away, and my prayers are with you all at such a sad time. I have only beautiful memories of the time so many years ago, when I had the honor of being a part of your family. Jeffery was the happiest baby and always had a smile, to be called nanna was a joy and honor. Virginia, I know you will be lost with out George and I pray you will find some comfort and strength in the love and life you shared. My God bless and keep you and your family in his care always. Much love to you all

Virginia, so sorry to hear of the passing of George. I had many great times with him through our younger years. It goes without saying that George was an "original" and one of a kind. My thoughts are with you on his passing.

To the entire Ablah family, and especially to the lovely Virginia-

Words are hard to come by when thinking about George. He was a beacon of hope and goodness, a magician with a twinkling eye, a constant well-spring of information and a much needed friend and guide for my boys and for me. George's spirit will live on in his many good deeds and in the hearts and thoughts of his many, many friends.

You are sorely missed George and I hope that donut truck was there to greet you.

Love, Kris, Dane, Seth and Joe Johnson

Dear Virginia and Family:

Please accept my sincerest condolences to you for your loss. George was such an icon but at the same time so down to earth, kind and respectful to everyone he dealt with. We are all poorer today with passing of "Little George" who was anything but little.

October 29, 2014

George was always an inspiration to me and the rest of our R.E. community. When I would go around the country and meet people every time I mentioned that I was from Wichita everyone always asked me if I knew George. He has been a wonderful asset for Wichita and will be greatly missed.

I remember writing my goals every year and I always said that I wanted to be like George Ablah.

He was always the life of our meetings at the Dirty Dozen. He will be greatly missed and I want to extend my best wishes for all of his family.

God Bless,

Herb & Kathy Krumsick

Thoughts from someone at a distance: "Larger than life" with legendary deals and ideas. A man to look up to with integrity to spare. Husband, Father, Businessman - in that order - One can only hope to have such things said of them in the end. Certainly you can say these things about George. He will be missed by many and remembered fondly by all.

George was such an inspiration to me when I was involved as the broker of record (after being introduced by Theo Hanson) for selling his Willowbend development! Always a visionary. Always to the point. Always gracious. But, surprisingly for someone so accomplished, NEVER arrogant or condescending. This entire community will miss him!
