George R. Katchur, 72, of Northampton passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2016, after a short bout with cancer at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Muhlenberg surrounded by his immediate family. George was the son of the late George and Anna (Steiner) Katchur. He attended East Stroudsburg University and Penn State University. George served in the Army National Guard for several years. He was employed in the Engineering Department of Mack Trucks for 40 years, retiring in 2007. George is survived by his loving wife, Kathy (Gavalla) Katchur. They would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in July 2017. George loved boating and stream and lake fishing with his family and friends. He also enjoyed deer hunting with his favorite uncle, son-in-law, brother-in-law and friends. One of the last things he wrote from his hospital bed was, "We will be missing the first day of hunting." He will be sorely missed by his immediate family as well as his mother-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Survivors: wife, Kathy; daughter, Kandice Ann, wife of Craig Dickover and their sons, Tyler and Samuel; son, Brian Edward Katchur, his wife, Deanna and son, Gavin; brother, Roger Katchur of Allentown and sister, Judy Kozo of Fort Myers, FL. Services: Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 29th at 10:00 a.m. in St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 4 South 5th St., Coplay. Burial will follow in St. Peter Roman Catholic Parish Cemetery, Whitehall. Family and friends may gather Friday evening from 6 - 8:00 p.m. in the Reichel Funeral Home, 326 E. 21st St., Northampton. A peaceful lake

The Katchur Family---so very sad to hear of George's illnesses and then the passing...he was a such key contributor to our BALLS bass fishing group for oh so many years...many of us, including my 40 year old son, learned a lot about fishing from George...he was a Bass Master and always willing to help the rookies and less-skilled...and he was full of good stories from earlier times...and we all ended up having more fun on these Canadian trips because of him...all of us will miss him and...
