George was salt of the earth.. I knew him as a neighbor, colleague and friend. His cool exterior masked a deep concern and commitment to deliver his best at all times. His coolest move to my mind took place when as a Ministerial staffer in the office of the Honorable Robert Andras, he was startled to get a bill for $50,000 from Transport Canada for the Minisiter`s weekend travel to the Lakehead that should not have cost more than $1500. I had the good fortune of meeting George and Eileen back in 1968 when we both joined the Foreign Branch of Immigration . He was the first lad I ever met from Saskatchewan and a most worthy and proud representative . George had a great sense of humor and was known by us as the "Grey Fox ".
