Not sure what to say?

I came across this while thinking back of my favorite, and most influential instructors while at CSULB. I have had an interresting art career, and owe it to those instructors. Our class was sad when he told us he was moving to Chico, but I'm happy to read of his wonderful influence there.

George Turnbull was the best design instructor I ever had. He was instrumental in my success as a professional when I completed my studies at Cal State Long Beach. I kept in touch with him years later. I think of him often as one of the people that made a huge impression in my life.

I'm Richard Jacks, an early student of George's (1965-66). In 1975, he asked me to teach one or two upper division classes per semester at Long Beach State. I did that for 13 years while I built my advertising agency. The last thing he told me was to make a million dollars by age 40. I did, but it took me an additional 5 years.

I'm long retired now but I have owed my career to him. He taught me how to really think through the creative process.

I'm deeply saddened to...

I have very fond memories of George from when I was a graphic design student at CSU, Chico. He was truly a master at his craft, a kind person and a wonderful teacher. Blessings.

Dear Rae,
I am a total stranger to you -but I must tell you that you have been in my thoughts for many years - In the 70's I discovered your beautiful book "Woman To Woman" in our library- I hand copied several pages - Most precious to me are the ones with these lines- "for I am an Autumn child"- "My children grew so fast"- "the times we find the treasures"and "I write down everything" -- Last year I found my very own copy through Amazon- It is truly a treasure to me- I am an...

Dear Rae, Ian and Gwynn,
We were saddened to learn only recently of George's passing and wish to extend our deepest condolences. George was an inspiration to those of who had the good fortune to enjoy his friendship and counsel. Your family, moreover, has always been a model for Randi and I.

My sympathy and thoughts to Rae and family. I remember some nice conversations at the Orland Art Center receptions and thought he was a kind and talented artist. He will be missed and honored for his good work and words.

George was such a kind and gentle spirit, not to mention an extremely talented and from what I am now reading, exceptional teacher. Difficult to accept the loss of such a special man, but his wonderful legacy of family and art will keep him alive in heart and spirit.

George was was a master teacher. He instilled a love of typography in me during my time at CSULB.
