George Valassis Obituary
George Franklin Valassis, 89, was born on September 29, 1929 in Toledo, OH and passed away surrounded by his loving family in Jupiter, FL on June 22, 2019. George got his bachelors from University of Michigan. George married Sandra Gwen Valassis on September 29, 1999 and have been married for 20 years. He was the founder of Valassis Communications and was called "The King of Coupons" for over 40 years. George loved playing golf and also did 4 professorship in Urology at the University of Michigan. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Cancer Society. A visitation will be Thursday, June 27, 2019 from 1:00PM to 2:00PM with a Memorial Service to follow at 2:00PM at Aycock-Riverside Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 1112 Military Trail, Jupiter, FL 33458 (561) 746-5124.

I had the pleasure of being friends with George for 30+ years and have numerous stories, but one stands out.
24 years ago I was Chairing Pine Tree's Invitational golf tournament when one of the members throughout his back in the practice round. I called George and asked if would play in place of the member for the next 3 days of the event. He agreed and turned around and won his flight with the injured member's guest.
What a great friend I have lost!

George was an extremely talented forward thinking entrepreneur. He created the advertising free standing insert and revolutionized the coupon distribution industry. Along the way I was introduced to him and my life changed forever for the better. He gave me the opportunity to take over a small manufacturers rep firm that he owned in the mid 1980's. Providing the seed capital and his shared experiences, we went on quite a ride. The world and especially the business community will miss him dearly. Goodbye my friend!

George revolutionized the coupon distribution industry. He was an old school, hard nosed, daring businessman with a tremendous amount of character. George hired, partnered with me, and provided the seed capital necessary to allow me to live and fulfill my dreams. I couldn't thank him enough for supplying the leadership and expertise needed by a young hungry entrepreneur to succeed in business. The world will not be the same without him. He was a generous and zany character that will be truly missed.
