Gerald Appel was the most knowledgeable technical stock market analysts of all time. He was also a pioneer in developing computer based trading systems and the associated algorithms. Gerald is the inventor of MACD, the Moving Average Convergence/Divergence indicator that is still widely used by technical analysts. He also developed the Time Trend system which was successfully used for many years.

I first subscribed to his Systems & Forecast investment letter and hotline in 1980 and later became a money management client. I am still with the firm he founded- Signalert- where his son, Marvin Appel, MD and PhD took over the family business.

Prior to his retirement, Gerald was my personal money management advisor. He was ALWAYS understanding, considerate, attentive, and committed to the individual needs of each of his clients. He always followed up with recommendations or action items the client might have forgotten about but he didn’t!

One of Gerald’s unpublicized talents was as a world class photographer, whose work appeared in galleries, books, international exhibitions, model portfolios and on the web. He was kind enough to send me 1 of 5 books of his beautiful photographs.
