I just learned Of Gerry's passing. I had the pleasure of working with him at Acoustic Research as a sales representative. This was back in the 1970s. After AR I was no longer in touch with people from that company or the audio industry as I began to work for a mainstream computer company.
It was interesting to see that Gerry's two loves were jazz and baseball. They are my loves also. We actually named one of our Newfoundland dogs, Mays. And my son played a lot of travel baseball and a cousins son is in the Cubs farm system.
I recently lost my mother so I am quite empathetic at this time.
Rest in Peace, Gerry!
Best,

I knew Gerald Landau through professional contact and letters at Acoustic Research during the 1960s and 1970s. He was a very succinct, clear-thinking individual with a self-effacing and businesslike demeanor. He spoke well and did not mince words, and I truly appreciated this quality in him. I only wish I could have known him personally, but those who did speak very kindly of this fine man. I am an AR historian, and I maintain the AR Archives.
Mr. Landau began work at Acoustic Research ("AR") in 1959, and during the summer of that year, he helped open AR's famous AR Music Room on the West Balcony of Grand Central Terminal in New York. This non-commercial music room remained open for 15 years and was for demonstration purposes only; no sales were made at this or the other AR Music Room on Brattle Street in Boston. Mr. Landau was also responsible for maintaining Edgar Villchur's well-respected customer-oriented sales and marketing policy for Acoustic Research; by 1966, AR had reached 32% of the total domestic loudspeaker market in the US, and Mr. Landau was a part of this remarkable achievement during this period.
