Gerard Perret Obituary

Gerard Anthony "Butsey" Perret, resident of Covington, Louisiana, passed away on March 10, 2024, at the age of 92. Born in New Orleans on July 19, 1931, he grew up in the 9th Ward, graduated from Holy Cross High School in 1948 and went on to play freshman baseball at LSU. From 1951 through 1953, "Gerry" was a communications specialist in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. In 1951, he met the love of his life, Marie Gamino, at a CYO dance. They married in 1953, had three children and enjoyed a loving relationship for over 70 years. Gerry started working for AT&T in 1953 and retired in 1985. During his 32 years with AT&T, Gerry and his family traveled the country. After numerous relocations up and down the eastern seaboard, the family returned home to New Orleans. In 1989, Gerry and Marie moved to Slidell into a house on the water where Gerry spent many hours fishing, crabbing and enjoying the view. He enjoyed Mardi Gras with the Pete Fountain Half-Fast Walking Club for over 25 years and was a regular retreatant as a "Man of Manresa", Group 51, for 36 years. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Marie Gamino Perret; daughters, Rosalinde Marie Freeman (Steve-deceased), Patricia Marie Treloar (Mike); son, Gerard Anthony Perret, Jr. (Cathy); grandchildren, Stephanie Smith (Dean), Angela Stewart (Frank), Allison Freeman, Kyle Treloar (Emily), Cory Treloar (Noelle), Caroline Perret; great-grandchildren, Caleb Smith (Aubree), Cali Freeman, Rebekah Smith, Jessica Stewart, Steven Stewart; and great-great grandchild, Ember Smith. Gerry is preceded in death by his parents, Alphonse Joseph Perret and Annie Ethel Martin; siblings, Clarence Perret, Sr., Claire Meyers, Lloyd Perret, Alwin Perret, Sr., and Althea Nuschler. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 15, 2024, at St. Louis King of France Church, 1609 Carrollton Avenue, Metairie, Louisiana 70005, beginning at 10:00 a.m. followed by Mass at noon.
