Gilbert Gutierrez Obituary
Gilbert, "Papa G" was a Yuma High School graduate and a proud Veteran of the U.S. Navy. He dedicated his life to the family businesses, Mr. G's Drive In, La Casa Gutierrez, Chile Pepper and the Tortilla Shop. He loved traveling, working in his yard, and most of all spending time with his family and friends.
Gilbert was preceded in death by his father, Juan Gutierrez; mother, Bessie Gutierrez; brother, Carlitos Gutierrez; sister, Mary Helen Masse; wife, Hortense Gutierrez.
He is survived by his twin brother, Johnny Gutierrez; sisters, Mary Lou Huff, Hortense (Frank) Castro, and Anna Marie Cano; five children, Robert (Talley) Gutierrez, Elizabeth (Kevin) Hunt, Erik Gutierrez, Adam Gutierrez and Rachel Garcia. Gilbert leaves behind a legacy of 11 Grandchildren and 2 Great Grandchildren. He also leaves his companion Delfina and his puppies, Sophie and Chiquita.
The Viewing and Rosary will be held at Johnson Mortuary on Sunday, November 18, 2012, from 5:00pm to 9:00pm. Mass will be held at Saint Francis Church at 10:30am on Monday, November 19, 2012, with burial following at Desert Lawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Robert Gutierrez, Jagger Gutierrez, Adam Michael Gutierrez, William Hunt, James Hunt, Kevin Hunt Jr. and Jose Flores.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Art Durazo, Louie Gonzalez, Leo Gutierrez, and Raul "Sonny" Gutierrez.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice of Yuma or the Crossroads Mission.

I sold Gilbert his Yorkie puppy "Sophia". He was a very kind man and loved that little girl so much. I made him a 1st birthday card for Sophia with the mommies picture on the front. (My Yorkie), and sent it to him, and he sent me back a thank you card, which I thought was so very nice. I didn't expect a reply, just wanted to wish all the puppy's in the litter a "Happy 1st Birthday" back then. I had the privilage to work under Gilbert for a few years as a young teenager and single mom. He was always so kind and thoughtful regarding my situation. Sorry to hear about Gilbert. We served on the Kearsarge together. I stopped to see him in 1967 when I was dicharged from the Navy. May God Bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.

So sorry to hear about Gil. He and I along with many others served aboard the USS Kearsarge early in the 60's. I stopped to see him after I was discharged in Yuma. He was a great friend and I only wish I had been able to spend more time with him in later years...

It's been so many years since I have seen or spoken to Gilbert, but his advice and good deeds remain with me to this day. I am comforted with the thought that he was always surrounded by those he loved.
