Glenn Whitfield Obituary

Glenn J. Whitfield

Madison

Glenn Joel Whitfield of Madison passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 surrounded by his loving family at St. Dominic's Hospital, the same hospital where he was born on March 2, 1955.

Glenn graduated from Murrah High School, worked for a brief time offshore and attended Hinds Community College where he studied electronics. In the 1980's, Glenn became active in firearms competition, competing across the Southeast and helping to found the Mississippi Revolver Society. He was a talented and exceptional gunsmith, firearms instructor and an avid collector.

For over 39 years, Glenn worked for Capitol Cablevision, Time Warner and most recently as an analyst for Comcast. He was a real estate broker and in 2010 opened Whitfield & Associates Real Estate.

Among Glenn's numerous talents, he was a remarkable craftsman. He could envision a product in 3-dimensions, draw it on a piece of paper and create it with perfection being his only option. He helped his wife Kathy restore and repair antique furniture, lighting and chandeliers for their antique booths. In 2014, Glenn acquired a much-dreamed-about 1957 Chevy Bel Air coupe. It was his pride and joy, and he was looking forward to sharing it in shows across the states.

In 2010, Glenn married Kathy Forbus Whitfield and they traveled throughout the United States, visiting many of the country's landmarks and attractions. They were both Patron-level Life Members of the National Rifle Association, served as sponsors for Friends of the NRA events and on several occasions attended the NRA national convention.

Glenn Whitfield was a member of First Baptist Church of Jackson and touched the lives of hundreds of people through the ministries there. He was known by all who met him for his smiling eyes, gentle demeanor, his caring disposition and his enviable talent. Glenn was preceded in death by his father, Norman Whitfield. Glenn is survived by his wife, Kathy Forbus Whitfield of Madison; children, Sarah Rera (Dan) and Russell Whitfield, both of Buffalo, New York; mother, Roberta Whitfield; sisters, Debbie Parker and Norma Thompson of Jackson; brother, Dr. Alan Whitfield (Susan) of Madison; three grandchildren, Elliott, Jane and Anne Rera; stepchildren, Greg Pigott of Brandon and Katie Pigott of Nashville; one niece, Kimberly Parker and three nephews, Franklin Thompson, Matthew Whitfield and William Whitfield.

The family would like to especially thank the staff of St. Dominic's Hospital and the pastoral staff of First Baptist Church of Jackson for being the hands and feet of Christ during this time of profound sadness.

Visitation was held Thursday, April 2, 2015 at Parkway Funeral Home in Ridgeland from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM. Graveside service will be Friday, April 3, 2015 at Parkway Memorial Cemetery at 9:30 AM. A celebration of Glenn's life will be held at the chapel of First Baptist Church of Jackson on Friday, April 3, 2015 at 11:00 AM.

The family requests that any memorials be sent to, The Kenneth Forbus School of Music & Fine Arts, 4085 Pate Branch Court, Loganville, GA 30052 or Friends of the NRA, www.friendsofnra.org.

For my friend Glenn Whitfield.

Remembering You:

At the rising of the sun and its going down, we remember you.
At the blowing of the wind and the chill of Winter, we remember you.
At the opening of the buds and in the rebirth of Spring, we remember you.
At the blueness of the skies and in the warmth of Summer, we remember you.
At the rustling of the leaves and in the beauty of Autumn, we remember you.
At the beginning of the year and when it ends, we remember you.
As long as we live, You too will live; for you are now a part of us,
as we remember you, for now and forever, Amen.

I'm sorry, there is one thing I meant to say. I am sure you have much support from family and friends, however I lost my wonderful soulmate 4 years ago and have no desire to date because God put us together and we were THE ONE for each other. I tell you this because it sometimes helps to talk to someone who has been through it and if there is ANYTHING I can do to help, even it's a year from now and you just want to talk, my number is 601-862-3051. You and your family will be in my prayers. I am so very sorry for your loss and what you are having to go through. Glenn was a smart, well respected man.

I had a great time sitting and talking with Glenn @ Gil's retirement party. He was such a great person. We worked in the same building right next to each other and he monitored the thermostat and I was next door in my office and we were always joking around about who was in control of it. He really was, but I never let him know I knew it!!! What fun great time we all had. If you went to Glenn for a question, he gave it to you right then. You will be missed Glenn, however, your up there with Tommy and Dominic and you know they are happy to see you! My thoughts and prayers are with the entire family.
