GLORIA BELASTOCK Obituary

BELASTOCK, Gloria Age 84, passed away on April 29, at home with her loved ones, in Needham, MA. Born August 13, 1940 in Minneapolis, MN to Arthur and Esther Carlson, Gloria cherished her Minnesotan and Swedish upbringing. She attended the University of Minnesota and spent several summers working with her treasured sister, Janice, at Yellowstone National Park. These summers were the source of true inspiration for Gloria. It sparked in her a lifelong love of nature and travel. To further this passion, she went on to become a flight attendant for Eastern Airlines, based out of Boston. Legendary stories were told from these years of her adventures flying around the world and living all over Boston with roommates who became true lifelong family. This is where she met her beloved husband, Ted, himself an Eastern Airlines pilot. They moved to Easton, MA, where they raised their daughter, Amy. The family enjoyed a beautiful, full life traveling, skiing, playing tennis and, most importantly, celebrating big and little moments with friends and family. During this time, Gloria volunteered at Amy's schools and worked in the offices at Temple Beth Emunah. She volunteered at the Lyric Theater and Boston Symphony for over 20 years. Her artful calligraphy addressed countless envelopes for the organizations she cared so deeply about. At every step of the way, Gloria made and nurtured meaningful friendships. Ted and Gloria spent many vibrant years living in the Boston area and then moved to their new home at Wingate in Needham. Gloria was loved there, known especially for her daily attendance at all the fitness classes and a top winner at Bingo. Always engaged and active, Gloria loved playing tennis, skiing, sewing quilts, volunteering, cooking gourmet meals, hiking, reading and playing her word games, puzzles and sodoku. She and Ted have played hundreds (thousands?) of backgammon games together, playing daily starting during Covid and up until her final days. Gloria treasured her time at Dan Hole Pond, New Hampshire, kayaking, walking the hills, feeding hummingbirds and spending time with dear friends. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to her dedicated doctors, hospice team and aids who provided loving care in her final months. Gloria is preceded in death by her father, Arthur, her mother, Esther and her sister, Janice (Herbst). She is survived by her devoted husband of 54 years, Ted, daughter, Amy (Dan), and beloved granddaughters, Isabel and Alexandra. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law and brother-in-law and nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly. She will be profoundly missed. The Funeral Service will be held at Stanetsky Funeral Home in CANTON, on Friday, May 2, at 10:00 a.m., followed by the interment at Pride of Brockton. In lieu of flowers, remembrances to the Alzheimer's Association or to Hebrew Senior Life Hospice in her honor would be appreciated.
