Gloria Marion Venus Landry, 91, peacefully went to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 28, 2022, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Ronald Southall officiating. A private casting ceremony will follow the funeral services. Gloria was born Sunday, October 26, 1930, in Pass Christian, Mississippi, to Viola Delaney and Earl Landry. She was affectionately known as "Big Glo" by friends and family. She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Earl Otis Landry, Sr. (Evelyn), Henrietta Spaulding, Doris Landry Turner, Thais Bradley (Morgan), George Landry, and Amelia Scott. She is survived by a host of family and dear loved ones who will miss her laughter, charm, and wit. Gloria attended Randolph High School in Pass Christian, MS, and Dillard University in New Orleans, LA. She worked as a housekeeper and caretaker for the Woodward family, where she enjoyed caring for the Woodward household, especially the children Margaret "Peggy" and Madison Woodward. She also worked at Napoleon Avenue United Methodist Church as a custodian and Marie C. Couvent Elementary School as a school chef. She also worked as a property manager for her tenants until she retired. Gloria had a beautiful spirit of servitude and loved helping others. She volunteered as a poll commissioner for every Orleans Parish election for many decades. She truly loved serving and attending her beloved church, Mount Zion United Methodist Church, for which she was a member since the late 1950s. She faithfully attended church services and Sunday school. She served on the usher and communion boards and sang in the choir. She helped facilitate fundraisers, worked on the scholarship committee, and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Gloria Landry is known as a past Matron with the Saint Luke Chapter #171 Order of the Eastern Star, Jericho Court #36 Order of Cyrene, Platta Court #114, Daughters of Isis Assembly #1, Order of the Golden Circle, Griseldam Court Order of the Heroines for 42 years, affiliated with the Prince Hall Masons. She was also a member of Amicae, an auxiliary group of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated. She was an active and uplifting member of her community and a loyal, supportive friend to those in need. She will be missed, and her memory will be treasured by friends and family. Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guestbook at www.leitzeaganfuneralhome.com. Dear Landry Family and Friends, we are saddened by Gloria´s passing, and yet, we join you in rejoicing with the angels in heaven for she now sits at our Master´s feet singing His praises. We loved Gloria and truly enjoyed our times spent together as members of Mt. Zion and as associates in the Prince Hall Masonic Order. Gloria was all about service, she now has the rewards that God had in store for her. As you mourn for her, trust your hearts to God for your healing, comfort and peace.
Blessings and love,
Your brother and sister in Christ,
Ed and Frances Ventress
