Gordon BELCHER Obituary

BELCHER, Gordon Wells

76, passed away unexpectedly Sept. 12, 2016. Wells was a member of the Belcher pioneer family of Pinellas County, a descendant of the McMullen and Taylor families, and a fifth generation lifetime Pinellas resident. Wells' great-grandfather, William Alexander Belcher, for whom Belcher Road was named, served in the Florida legislature in the late 1800's and introduced a bill to create Pinellas County. Wells attended elementary and junior high school in Largo, and graduated from Largo High School. Throughout his life, Wells made an unusually large number of friends and acquaintances, many of whom came from his frequent conversations with customers of Publix, his favorite employer. In his relations with others, Wells was always kind, friendly, and humble, and would go out of his way to help others. He was predeceased by his parents, Gordon F. Belcher and Sally Wells Belcher of Largo. He is survived by his brother, William Fletcher Belcher (Gayla) of St. Petersburg; sister, Leta B. Climer (Clyde) of Greenville, SC; nieces, Amy Belcher, Jenny Thielemann, and Amanda Carter (Josh); a nephew, Scott Climer; nine grandnieces and grandnephews; and Nancy Sparks, a cherished member of his extended family. Wells attended the Church of Christ in Largo and Skyview in Pinellas Park. Wells was a unique person who was dearly loved and will be sorely missed and forever remembered by his family and friends. A graveside service will be held at 2 pm, Monday, Sept. 26, at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park, 2860 Sunset Point Road, Clearwater. Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home (727) 796-1992

Wells was fixture in Largo as we grew up together. Many times I gave him a ride to or from town. Always friendly and I was proud to know him as a friend.
