Gordon CLAUSEN Obituary

CLAUSEN,
Gordon Bryan

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing on January 6, 2018 of our beloved brother, Gordon, at the age of 58 due to complications of influenza. Born August 1, 1959, Gordon grew up on the family farm across from Liberty High School near Spangle, WA. After graduating from Liberty High in1977, Gordon attended Washington State University and attained a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1982. After graduating, Gordon worked for the former International Systems Corporation (ISC) in Liberty Lake, WA for several years before joining Itron Inc. and then later Itronix, an Itron subsidiary, which was later acquired by General Dynamics in 2005. Gordon was extremely active in a wide range of outdoor pursuits for many years including hiking, backpacking, mountain climbing, canoeing, cycling, and camping. He was an active member of the Spokane Astronomy Society and the Spokane Mountaineers, and he successfully climbed many Northwest mountains and peaks including Mt. Hood, Mt. Rainier and others. Gordon was proud to be a Cougar and enjoyed travelling with friends to root for the Cougs in several Bowl appearances, most notably the 1998 Rose Bowl. Another life experience trip was to the middle of nowhere Oregon where he witnessed the total eclipse this past summer. Family and friends remember him not only for his intellect, but also he was one of the kindest people to ever walk the planet. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence "Dutch" and Janice "Elaine" Clausen of Spangle and his sister, Sharon Neumann. He is survived by two brothers, Jeff and Kurt of Spokane; sister Roxanne Everett of Post Falls; a niece Taylor of Seattle, and nephews Louis and Alex of Spokane. A memorial service is being planned with a date yet to be determined. The family suggests donations to the charity of your choice in memory of Gordon.

I was fortunate to have been Gordon's coworker at Itronix, and eventually his supervisor. He was a solid contributor to our team and held in high esteem. As his friends tell, Gordon was also a genuinely nice man and I enjoyed learning about astronomy from him. I once attempted to keep up with him on a mountain bike trail and came out worse for wear. I want to express my heartfelt sympathy to his family and friends.

Oh shoot -- I haven't seen you for way too long but you were never forgotten. I still remember going to White H2O to go skiing and rock climbing, playing volleyball and going once down to your parents farm. You were always doing something new. Way too soon to go. I don't know what to say, so RIP --- barb

I met Gordon at the Garland Pub several years ago where he often played poker. He was a pleasant man to be around and had many friends. Will miss you Gordon. RIP

Gordon... God, I can't believe you're really gone... I've reached for my phone to text you numerous times to discuss Coug or Husky news, simply out of habit. It saddens me every time... You were a good man with a great intellect, and the fact that you were a Coug could be overlooked since you were such a genuinely good dude :) You and your dealing skills will be missed at the Pub, but you will never be forgotten... RIP my friend.

Gorgon was an amazing guy. I met him about 2 years ago in a Poker game. He helped me figure out what I was doing. He was always kind and I will never forget him. RIP my friend.

Gordon, my dear friend, riends made in Washington State in 1989, you are missed. To say I am saddened, is an understatement. My heart has been broken, and my condolences go out to your family ,along with many hugs. Thank you for so many wonderful memories Gordon. You were my brother, and one of the kindest, and most interesting men I have ever known. Much love being sent your way in heaven. Every time I scream Go Cougs, I will scream it just a little louder for you.The next time I am sitting on a beach in the Yucatan under the Moonlight, I will be remembering you and that wonderful night we all laughed together, and toasted the Caribbean moonlight for my 50th birthday. Missing you horribly, your friend always.
