Gordon John Obituary

GORDON G. ST. JOHN, 86 MACHESNEY PARK - Gordon G. St. John, 86, of Machesney Park, went into the arms of the Lord Sunday, October 27, 2013, in his home, surrounded by love. Born, January 16, 1927, in Rockford to Manley and Lillian (Brockway) St. John. Gordon served in the U.S. Navy, during WWII, on the USS Boxer. He received several medals for his faithful service. He later went on to marry the love of his life, Eva (Myers) St. John on February 16, 1950. Gordon played a role in the creation of the Harlem Community Center. He thoroughly enjoyed working on, and restoring antique cars, playing golf, and cheering for the Chicago Bears. Survivors include children, Tonda (Larry) Borrison, Carla (Denny) Lee, Randy (Katie) St. John, and Gordy St. John; 7 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild. He is preceded in death by his wife; parents; and 13 siblings. Special thanks to OSF Home Care Services. Funeral Service 2 p.m. Friday, November 1, 2013, at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd, Machesney Park. Pastor Wendell Maynard officiating. Visitation 1 p.m. until the time of service. Interment in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
