GRADY HURST Obituary

HURST, DR. GRADY BOYD D.C. - passed away October 21, 2014. Grady was born November 23, 1925 in Lawrenceburg, TN and grew up in Nashville. He and Bobbie moved to Knoxville in 1960 to open his practice. He was a loving husband, devoted father, and faithful servant to the Lord. He touched the lives of so many through his Christian example and his service as a chiropractor. He practiced in Knoxville for over 55 years until his retirement at age 82. He did not have to work; just loved what he did and the people he helped. Grady raised his kids to know that money is not important- It is your love and service to God, to your family, and the people around you. In his younger days, he was a proud member of the American Legion marching band. He served in the U.S. Army in Europe during WWII and served South Knoxville Church of Christ as an elder for many years. Dr. Hurst is survived by: his loving wife of 65 years, Bobbie Craighead Hurst; sons, Ronnie & Kenny Hurst, Ricky (Margaret) Hurst; daughter, Donna (Ken) Carter; son-in-law, Jerry Fittro; 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Gerald (Eleanor) Hurst; and cousin, Deanna (Don) Stuckey. He is preceded in death by: parents, Henry & Olive Akers Hurst; daughter, Debbie Fittro; and a brother, Jack Hurst. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 24th at 7:00 p.m. at the South Knoxville Church of Christ with visitation beginning at 5:00 p.m. Graveside services will be held Saturday, October 25th at 11:00 a.m. in the Berry Highland South Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please send memorials to: South Knoxville Church of Christ, 4604 Chapman Hwy. Knoxville, TN 37920. Please sign our online guestbook at www.highlandmemorialsouth.com.

Donna, Your Dad has been a wonderful influence to me...and so many others. He showed me what being a devoted Christian, husband and father looks like in practice. I hope I can become half the example he was. I love your dad and will miss him very much. I love you, too and I'm sharing your grief.
Bobbie (Mama)-- You're in my heart and prayers. Thanks so much for being a wonderful Christian example for me, too. I love you all, Ken
