Schrader Funeral Home and Crematory - Ballwin Obituary

Gregory Brabant Powers, Sr., left this world too soon on May 24, 2024, at the age of 74 after a short but valiant battle with Cholangiocarcinoma.  He was preceded in death by his beautiful son, Joseph Pierce Powers.  He was the loving husband of Patricia Purcell Powers, the treasured father of his surviving children, Greg, Jr., Margaret, and Kathleen,  and the adored “Buddy” of grandchildren Auggie and Emerson Powers.  He is also survived by siblings Pierce, David, Marc, Manette, Christopher, and Dorothy.

Greg grew up in Clayton, MO, and attended Our Lady of Lourdes, St. Louis University High School, and Clayton High School.  He was a graduate of St. Louis University. He spent his career as an Insurance Broker, first with the Charles L. Crane Agency, and later with MGI Risk Advisors.

Greg was a founder of the St. Anselm Athletic Association and enjoyed both coaching and refereeing soccer.  He was a member of the Parkway School Board from 2005-2008.

Greg served as President of the Tennessee Society of St. Louis in 1991.

He was an avid boater who loved nothing more than spending the day with his family cruising on the Mississippi.  Greg was proud of his position as the unofficial Mayor of Sunnybrook subdivision.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on  Saturday, June 1, at St. Anselm Catholic Church (Priory).  Visitation will be from 10-11 at the church, with the Funeral Mass beginning at 11:00.

In lieu of flowers, the family would gratefully appreciate donations to Friends of Kids with Cancerhttps://www.friendsofkids.com/donate.html in Greg’s memory, honoring his brave grandson, Auggie.

Rest in peace, our sweet Bon Vivant.

Not sure what to say?

It's hard to believe a year has passed. Every time I watch officials walk onto the pitch to work a soccer match, I see Greg Powers there. I often have an urge to go down at half time or when the match is over and ask them if they knew Greg. I'm certain many would say yes and laud him. In my prayers still. Joe Hurley

I just saw the post, and my heart sunk. Wish I had known. My prayers are with you as you continue your journey. Loved working with you. Pat Luna

Patty, I am so sorry for your loss. You and your family are in my prayers.

I never saw Mr. Powers in a bad mood, he was always a delight to interact with. Much love to the Powers family

known Greg since school at lourdes. He is Missed

Judy and I offer our sincere condolences to Patti and the Powers family. We are so sorry for your loss. When I used to walk the neighborhood, meeting Greg always brought a ray of sunshine to my day! He had a smile and upbeat words for everyone. Sunnybrook will not be the same without him.
