Gregory Alan Smith, age 60, passed away peacefully with his family by his side following a brief battle with cancer.

Born in 1964 and raised in Savannah, Georgia and the Daufuskie Island area, inspiring his love of the water and his working on a shrimp boat as a youth. Greg graduated from Beach High School before attending the former Southern Polytechnic State University, where he studied architecture. He spent most of his life in the masonry and construction industries, including a 20-year tenure at Thomas Concrete and owning his own business.

In 1989, he married the former Cheri Tuley, and together they raised a family of five, where friends were always welcome. Greg was a dedicated family man, always attending every sport or event to support his kids, from little league baseball and football to high school and college softball to lacrosse, volleyball, and ROTC. He loved reading history books, watching all kinds of movies, and watching sports, especially the Atlanta Braves and Georgia Tech.

Greg was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Pitts, and his grandparents, George and Claudine Remley and Benjamin & Ruby Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Cheri Smith of Acworth; his sons, Benjamin (Mallory) Smith of Gainesville and Matthew Smith of Panama City; daughters Georgia Smith of Winder, Tessa (Manatsa) Mutasa of Acworth, and Kristen (Jordan Ferros) Lee of Acworth, grandchildren Leland Corta, Jaylynn Prince, and AJ Mutasa; his father Jerry Smith (Cheryl); and his sister, Tammy (Mike) Clevenger, as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

The family will hold a celebration of life in Kennesaw and a private memorial in Savannah.
