Hailey Buhnerkemper Obituary
Springfield, IL—Springfield, IL- Hailey Paige Buhnerkemper, 20 a lifelong resident of Springfield, passed away Friday, August 18, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center.
She was born July 17, 1997 the daughter of Robert and Rachelle (Cross) Buhnerkemper. Her mother preceded her in death Sept. 30, 2000. She was also preceded in death by her grandfathers; Joseph Buhnerkemper in 1987 and Donald Connolly in 2014.
Hailey graduated from Springfield High School. She began her secondary education at Lincoln Land Community College and worked in food service with Nelson's Catering.
Hailey had a strong Christian faith that she shared through her membership with UIS Christian Student Fellowship. She was a devoted and active member of West Side Christian Church where she served in the nursery and more recently with the Jr. High Ministry.
She also served as a counselor at the Lake Springfield Christian Assembly. In her spare time, Hailey found great joy in art, especially painting, water color and drawing.
Surviving are her father and step-mother, Robert "Bob" and Leanne Buhnerkemper of Springfield, her brothers and sisters: Connor Jacobs and Lindsey Buhnerkemper both of Springfield, Joshua Buhnerkemper of Parker, CO and Sydney Buhnerkemper of Springfield, her grandparents: Raye Cross of Parker, CO, Rich and Lucie Gorman of Springfield, and Kathryn Connolly of Modesto, IL. She has several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Cremation rites will be accorded prior to services by Bisch Crematory.
Memorial Visitation and Service: Hailey's family will receive family and friends from 4-7 P.M. Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at West Side Christian Church 2850 Cider Mill Ln. Springfield, IL 62702.
Additional visitation will be from 10 A.M. Thursday, August 24, 2017 until the time of her memorial service at 11 A.M. Thursday at the church. Pastor Eddie Lowen will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Lake Springfield Christian Assembly 1674 Lick Creek Ln. Chatham, IL 62629

I met Hailey this summer at camp while working with the meal pack service project. She noticed my Lifeline Christian Mission shirt & jokingly said she wanted it. She gave me her shirt size & color choice & I made sure she received one the following week. She was a sweet, gentle spirit & I remember that she was good with the campers... enjoyed being in the company of children. My daughter is a few years older than Hailey. One of the greatest joys of my life has been being a father/parent... my heart aches for you. Wishing you only the best.

Hailey was a blessing to be around, whether she was giving me a hard time in middle school and high school or she was helping me with my homework making me feel dumb because she was so smart. She was an awesome person who you could always joke around with and she'd always have the last laugh. Hailey's playful personality is something I will truly miss and I know that she is upstairs looking down on her beautiful family protecting them through all the trials and tribulations they will go through. Hailey you will be missed, thank you for all the great memories you gave me over the course of our time in school and church together.

Please know y'all are in our hearts and prayers. The loss of a child is not natural to parents,it is heart breaking! And that still is not the end. Facing each day is another struggle. Just know after the services are over the heart starts to heal! The pain turns to fond memories and you will smile a real smile again. The tears will come and your heart will feel warm and then it is those memories that will comfort you!! Trust me I am speaking as a survivor of the journey you have just begun!!
