Hans Sorensen
Born: February 23, 1928 in Evanston, IL
Died: November 2, 2023 in Woodstock, IL
Hans Christian Lumbye Sorensen, age 95, of Woodstock, and formerly of Marengo, passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2023.
Hans was born February 23, 1928 in Evanston to George and Toudora (Jensen) Sorensen. He married Donna Jean Arendt on July 22, 1950. Hans served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was in the the Tank Co. 5th Infantry Regiment and was awarded a Korean service medal with two bronze stars.
Hans worked for Ben Frey Mink Ranch in Crystal Lake for many years. He then moved to Marengo in 1970 to start his own mink ranch, which became very successful.
He is survived by his children, Hans Michael Sorensen, Laureen Ann (LeRoy) Buchanan, and Karen Louise (Casey) Sorensen-Kindt; his daughter-in-law, Donna Sorensen; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna; his sisters, Doris Witt and Astrid Rapp; his son, Mark Steven Sorensen; and his granddaughter, Margaret Ann Buchanan.
There will be a visitation from 9 to 11am on Tuesday, November 7 at St. John's Lutheran Church, 6821 Main St, Union. The service will follow at 11am. Interment will be in Union Cemetery.
