LINDQUIST

Dr. Harley D. Lindquist, died February 4, 2017 at age 89 surrounded by loving family, while recovering from a brief illness.  Harley D. Lindquist, M.D., loving husband of the late Patricia M. Lindquist (nee McMahon).  Beloved father of H. D. Alan (Wantana) Lindquist and Gretchen (Wayne) Barker.  Dear grandfather of Harley Alan and Ganjana Anachai Lindquist, and Songee, Nate and Kurt Barker. Preceded in death by brothers Claude Alan and Donald Kenneth Lindquist. Harley D. Lindquist, was born in Jamestown New York, where he grew up hunting and fishing with his father, brothers and uncles.  He graduated from Alfred University and the University at Buffalo Medical School.  He served his country as a physician in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.  He went on to a long career as a clinical and forensic pathologist, practicing in New York City, Athens Georgia, and several other locations, prior to relocating to Mansfield Ohio.  He practiced for many years at Mansfield General Hospital, was elected Coroner of Richland County.  He shied away from public speaking, but after smoking for decades, and learning of the scientific proof to the dangers of smoking he quit and became a strong advocate, speaking on the subject of quitting smoking. In Mansfield he was active in several groups, including the symphony board, the Rotary, where he was a past president, and the yacht club.  He was physically active his entire life, working out at the YMCA, playing squash, sailing and hiking.  He hiked several sections of the Appalachian and Long trails.  He loved traveling and traveled to all 50 states, many national parks, and several countries around the world.  He greatly enjoyed sampling different foods, watching baseball, listening to music, and reading.  He was was an avid outdoorsman, camper, fisherman, a HAM radio operator, woodworker, painter, beekeeper, home brewer and certified beer judge.  He was renowned for his jokes and sense of humor, and loved nothing more than spending time with his family. When he retired from the Coroner’s office, he moved to Florida, but even in retirement he prided himself in being a life long learner.  He took grand rounds and participated in mortality reviews to keep up his professional skills and help the younger generation. He returned to Ohio, moving to Cincinnati with his wife in 2007, where they lived the rest of their lives with his son and his son’s family.  Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, Feb. 11th at 11:00 AM at Saint Monica-St. George Church, 328 W. McMillan Street (45219).  Mihovk-Rosenacker Funeral Homes serving the family.

Not sure what to say?

To the Lindquist Family,
Please accept our sympathies and prayers for the passing of Harley. He was a very accomplished pathologist and missed when he left Mansfield General/MedCentral Health System.
The Ron Nelson Family

. Dr,Lindquist brought stories and smiles to the OR. He was also a very kind and compassionate person I served on Mansfield City Council with Pat. We thought a lot alike on many things and became good friends. I will never forget either of them!

What a great fellow Harley was! Always look forward to seeing he and Pat on one of their visits to my office. He had a terrific sense of humor, and was on awesome character.

I was an OR nurse at MGH and always enjoyed Dr. Lindquist coming to the OR for frozen sections. He was compassionate, had a great sense of humor, and always had a story to tell. He took criticism well when I scolded him for not wearing gloves and then asking for my pen.
I am also sorry to see that Pat had passed away. We served on City Council together. She was a great lady, and we agreed on most issues and had a good time sitting together.
My sincere condolences to you on the...

Always enjoyed it when Pat & Harley would come to my office. Such a wonderful couple. And Harley always kept me amused with his antics, and tales. One of the good guys, that will be missed by many. Deepest sympathy to the friends and family of Harley.

My deepest condolences to the family. May the assurance at Psalms 29: 11 provide comfort to you at this difficult time.

I had the honor of lunching with Dr. L a few times at MGH while we both were employed; him as Lab pathologist and me in Personnel. Loved his chuckle, his sense of humor and brilliance. I coordinated a then/now photo salute of our employee/veterans 1991 and Dr L brought me a photo of himself in Korea dressed in fatigues holding a very small, scraggly Christmas tree. It was all they could find over there. He served mankind all his life. We don't like losing anyone, but knowing he lived a full...

Harley was a good man and excellent in his chosen profession. Always had something interesting to say. RIP
